Allied Van Lines: Full HGM research
Research reviewed October 7, 2026. Records and terms can change.
Federal records, operating arrangements, consumer evidence and source limitations behind HGM’s overview. Use the short company profile for the key booking considerations.
Research context and what to verify
Use the dated federal record and your own documents to identify each company’s role. Consumer accounts describe reported experiences, not how often an outcome occurs.
Federal identity and authority
FMCSA SAFER, independently checked October 7, 2026 with data dated October 6, identifies Allied Van Lines Inc., USDOT 76235 / MC-15735 / FF-9490, as ACTIVE. Its entity type is carrier, freight forwarder and broker. The displayed authority includes household-goods motor carriage and household-goods brokerage, plus motor carriage, brokerage and freight forwarding of property other than household goods.
FF-9490 should not be described as household-goods freight-forwarder authority. Active broker authority does not mean every Allied shipment is brokered. The written documents and participating companies identify the roles for an individual move.
Review evidence and dated accounts
Conservative working sample: Approximately 10–12 usable dated US accounts, plus company-hosted, undated favorable examples considered separately.
Date range: Primarily March–September 2026. Older and international accounts were screened but not used to establish current US themes.
Selected anchors:
- Berger BBB — Brian S — July 19, 2026 — Professional packing/loading and careful delivery
- Berger BBB — Michael W — June 5, 2026 — Handling/claim dispute; partial resolution reported
- Allied BBB — Lisa Z — July 6, 2026 — Damage account; company disputes scope submitted
- Allied BBB — Cheryl M — June 30, 2026 — Self-packed-item claim concern; secondhand material excluded
- Allied BBB complaint — September 17, 2026 — Booking-agent attribution, delivery/storage-charge dispute
- Allied BBB complaint — August 31, 2026 — Incomplete delivery and delay-allowance dispute
- Allied BBB complaint — August 17, 2026 — Delay and update concerns
- Allied BBB complaint — August 3, 2026 — Agent-booked shipment and delivery-delay claim
- Allied BBB complaint — July 27, 2026 — Repair/claim follow-through concerns
- Trustpilot — Cody Ridler — September 1 publication; August 17 experience, 2026 — Handling and claim-inspection concerns
These are shipment or agent experiences—not interchangeable direct actions by national headquarters. Better Business Bureau
Resolution updates: Berger’s Michael W account reports a property-damage settlement after escalation, while other claimed items remained disputed. Retain that distinction. Allied’s responses direct some delay complaints into its claim process; that is not proof compensation was received. Better Business Bureau
Duplicate and attribution screening:
- The two Trustpilot domain profiles were not summed into one national rating.
- A Canadian Meldrum account was excluded from current US conclusions.
- Berger furniture-store delivery accounts were excluded from household-move themes.
- Repeated regional website testimonials were not treated as separate accounts.
- No confirmed cross-platform duplicate was established; unidentified complaints may overlap.
Attribution, resolutions and evidence limits
National-headquarters complaints, agent-specific Berger accounts and company-hosted testimonials are considered separately. Shipment experiences are not interchangeable direct actions by headquarters. Where an account identifies an agent or shipment role, that attribution stays with the account.
Recent independent favorable evidence is thinner than the concern evidence in this sample. The identified Berger move and undated company-hosted examples support reported professional crews, careful packing/loading and helpful coordination, but not their national prevalence. Company-hosted testimonials are selected examples rather than independent sampling.
Michael W reported a property-damage settlement after escalation while other claimed items remained disputed. Company replies directing delay complaints into a claim process do not establish that compensation was received. No authenticated contracts or independent adjudication of disputed charges were available.
The sample does not establish typical estimate-to-final-price increases, a typical delay duration, universal denial of self-packed-item claims or comparable performance across agents. International moves, retail furniture deliveries and secondhand allegations are excluded from current US household-move conclusions.
Review methodology
HGM reviewed the October 7, 2026 public-source evidence described below as a targeted qualitative sample, not a complete platform export or representative customer survey. Sample estimates describe usable narratives inspected, not platform totals or independently verified customers. Reviews and complaints are accounts or allegations, not verified events or regulatory findings. Contracts, invoices, photographs and claimed losses were not independently authenticated.
Updated posts, business replies, featured excerpts and repeated snippets count as one account. Cross-platform uniqueness remains uncertain when identifying details are missing. Source pages and ordering can change. Publication, experience and complaint-filing dates are distinguished where available. No national rating, pooled satisfaction rate, complaint rate or frequency claim is inferred.
Operational context and terms
The following operational material is retained from HGM’s October 6 profile. It has not been independently reverified for this review update unless stated in the federal section above. Terms may change; use the written agreement for your move.
Earlier review notes and attribution
These earlier notes have no retained platform-by-platform sample or count and cannot establish frequency.
Some reviewers praise careful, efficient crews and clear communication from coordinators or drivers. Other accounts describe delivery delays or changing dates, damaged or missing items, communication gaps, and disputed or slow claims.
Reviews may concern Allied, a local agent, or both. An agent’s conduct should not automatically be attributed to Allied itself. These are reviewers’ accounts, not verified findings or a measure of how often an issue occurs.
Confirm which agent will handle your shipment, who will communicate delivery changes, and who handles claims.
Research concerns Allied Van Lines, USDOT 76235. Local-agent accounts require separate attribution. Material concerning the separate broker, USDOT 4112172, is excluded.

Federal registration is not an endorsement by HGM or the federal government. Allied’s broader federal entity classification includes carrier, freight forwarder, and broker, but that does not mean Allied holds household-goods authority in all three categories.
How Allied Van Lines works
Allied publicly describes its operation as a national van-line system supported by local Allied agents.
Its agent-directory materials say local moving companies work as Allied agents and may assist with booking or act as origin, destination, and/or hauling agents.
For an individual shipment:
- a booking agent may help arrange the move;
- an origin agent may assist at pickup;
- a hauling agent or carrier may perform transportation;
- a destination agent may assist at delivery;
- a storage provider may handle storage-in-transit;
- third-party providers may perform specialty services where applicable.
The exact participants and roles should be identified from the shipment documents.
Allied’s reviewed materials do not establish that every local agent has the same ownership structure. HGM therefore does not assume that one local agent’s conduct automatically describes another agent or the national brand.
Federal role and authority
HGM’s October 6, 2026 recheck confirmed that current federal records showed:
- active Motor Carrier of Household Goods authority under MC-15735;
- active Broker of Household Goods authority under MC-15735;
- freight-forwarder authority under FF-9490 for Property (Except Household Goods), not Household Goods.
Active broker authority does not mean every Allied shipment is brokered.
Likewise, FF-9490 should not be described as household-goods freight-forwarder authority.
The role used on a specific shipment depends on the actual paperwork and participating companies.
Services Allied advertises
Allied’s consumer-facing materials advertise or describe services including:
- interstate moving;
- long-distance and cross-country moving;
- local moving services through local Allied representatives or agents where available;
- in-home visual surveys;
- online estimate tools;
- full-service and fragile-only packing;
- unpacking;
- loading and unloading;
- storage and storage-in-transit;
- vehicle transport;
- piano moving;
- custom crating;
- specialty and appliance services arranged through third parties where available;
- assembly/disassembly services where included;
- Allied Express small-shipment services;
- international moving services;
- corporate and office moving.
Availability can depend on location, route, agent, shipment size, service provider, written quote, and contract terms.
Allied Express is a separately marketed small-shipment/container-oriented program. Its program-specific terms should not be assumed to apply to conventional Allied van-line moves.
Estimates and pricing
Allied advertises customized estimates and online estimate tools.
Its public materials describe both binding and non-binding estimates.
Allied also uses marketing terms such as “Guaranteed Price Protection,” “guaranteed rate,” “guaranteed quote,” “guaranteed price,” and “fixed price.”
HGM does not treat those marketing terms as separate federal estimate categories or as automatically equivalent to one another. The written estimate controls.
Allied’s materials identify potential cost factors including shipment weight, distance, home size, move date, seasonality, packing, crating, bulky items, storage, vehicle transport, shuttle service, special handling, assembly/disassembly, and third-party specialty services.
The materials HGM reviewed did not establish one universal Allied pricing rule for stairs, elevators, long carries, parking restrictions, road restrictions, extra stops, or inventory changes.
Deposits, payment, cancellation, and refunds
HGM’s October 4 research did not identify a current universal Allied policy establishing one standard deposit amount, deposit percentage, refundability rule, or deposit-refund timeline.
Older Allied educational material discusses deposits and cancellation, but HGM treats those articles as dated guidance rather than current universal contract terms.
Consumers should obtain the actual payment, cancellation, fee, and refund terms from the booking entity in writing.
Valuation and claims
Allied’s consumer materials distinguish mover valuation from insurance.
Allied’s reviewed materials use several terms for the lower-liability option and for higher-protection options.
For an individual move, the signed valuation election and Bill of Lading control.
HGM’s shared Moving Valuation vs. Insurance guide explains the federal baseline. Consumers should compare Allied’s current paperwork with that framework rather than assuming marketing terminology defines the legal liability level.
Allied provides an online domestic claim form and identifies a Claim Services Department. The responsible entity and controlling claim terms for a specific shipment should be confirmed from the shipment and service-provider documents.
HGM does not generalize Allied’s published 90-day intra-Texas claim deadline to interstate household-goods moves.
Earlier review context
The following account themes and limitations were retained from HGM’s October 6 profile. The dated October 7 evidence above updates that earlier assessment; neither supports frequency conclusions.
Limited review evidence
Allied is a large national van-line brand operating through local agents.
A public review associated with the Allied brand may concern:
- Allied Van Lines Inc.;
- a booking agent;
- an origin agent;
- a hauling agent or carrier;
- a destination agent;
- a storage provider;
- a third-party service provider.
Public reviews do not always identify those roles clearly.
Before the October 7 update, HGM did not have a sufficiently documented Allied-specific review sample with a clear platform set, date range, sample size, and methodology suitable for broader category findings.
HGM therefore does not use brand-level reviews here to make frequency, recurrence, or pattern claims.
Reviews and complaints are consumer reports or allegations, not regulatory findings.
What to check before booking
For an Allied move, confirm:
- Which legal company is on the estimate? Check the company name and federal identifiers.
- Which Allied agent is involved? Identify the booking and origin agent where applicable.
- Who is hauling the shipment? Confirm the hauling agent or carrier once identified.
- Who is handling destination services? Identify the destination agent when assigned.
- Is storage involved? Confirm the warehouse/storage provider and storage terms.
- What estimate type applies? Confirm whether the written estimate is binding or non-binding and what any “guaranteed” language actually refers to.
- What services and charges are included? Review packing, crating, shuttle, specialty, storage, and third-party-service charges.
- What valuation option did you select? Check the actual valuation election and high-value-item requirements.
- What payment and cancellation terms apply? Use the current shipment documents, not old general articles.

Common questions
Is Allied Van Lines a carrier or a broker?
The federal record reviewed by HGM showed Allied Van Lines Inc. with active household-goods motor-carrier authority and active household-goods broker authority. The role used on a particular shipment depends on the shipment documents.
Is Allied a household-goods freight forwarder?
The reviewed federal record showed FF-9490 for Property (Except Household Goods), not Household Goods. HGM therefore does not describe Allied as currently holding household-goods freight-forwarder authority.
Does Allied always perform the move itself?
Not necessarily. Allied’s own materials describe a network of local agents that may participate in booking, origin, hauling, and destination functions. Identify the actual participants from your paperwork.
Are all Allied agents the same company?
The reviewed materials do not establish one universal ownership structure for every Allied agent. HGM keeps the national brand, Allied Van Lines Inc., and local agents separate where the evidence supports that distinction.
What does “Guaranteed Price Protection” mean?
Allied uses several pricing and marketing terms. HGM does not treat those terms as separate federal estimate categories. Check the written estimate to see whether it is binding or non-binding and what the guarantee actually covers.
