U-Pack: Full HGM research
Research reviewed October 7, 2026. Records and terms can change.
Federal records, operating arrangements, consumer evidence and source limitations behind HGM’s overview. Use the short company profile for the key booking considerations.
Research context and what to verify
Use the dated federal record to identify the company and your shipment documents to identify who performs the work. Public review accounts explain reported experiences, not how often an outcome occurs.
Federal identity verification
FMCSA SAFER accessed October 7, 2026, with data dated October 5, identifies ArcBest II, Inc., USDOT 2946400 / FF-17300 / MC-997363, as ACTIVE and a freight forwarder/broker, authorized for household goods and other property in both roles. SAFER’s DBA field is ARCBEST. U-Pack’s FAQ describes the U-Pack brand under ArcBest II; that company-described branding is distinct from the federal DBA field.
The separate Moving Solutions Inc. record, USDOT 2632086 / FF-8973 / MC-914011, is also ACTIVE in the October 5 snapshot, with freight-forwarder and broker authorities and DBA U-PACK. These are separate registrations. HGM does not infer a merger, succession or authority transfer. Match the legal entity and applicable liability terms on your shipment documents.
Review evidence and dated accounts
Approximately 20–25 usable accounts from the visible review/complaint pages, conservatively allowing for ambiguous cross-platform overlap. Primary recent evidence is April–October 2026; an August 2025 equipment/claim account is retained as older, relevant evidence, not a current trend. Trustpilot page 4 provides an August 2026 cluster; the main page provides September–October accounts.
- Trustpilot, Sue — September 21, 2026 experience — Smooth process and reasonable price
- Trustpilot, Mompays — October 5, 2026 experience — Communication praise
- Trustpilot page 4, John — August 17, 2026 experience — Straightforward scheduling, space pricing and helpful drivers
- Trustpilot page 4, ESH — August 21, 2026 experience — Shipment/equipment updates
- Trustpilot page 4, Emily — August 7, 2026 experience — Overall positive; bulkhead/measurement difficulty
- Trustpilot page 4, Hugo Ramirez — August 26, 2026 experience — Convenience; underestimated cube capacity
- BBB, Ian P — August 20, 2026 review — Canada–US terminal mismatch; reports $400 refund
- BBB, Lauri R — May 28, 2026 review — Damaged items and denied claim
- BBB, David H — April 20, 2026 review — Helpful support after difficulty understanding steps
- BBB complaint — August 4, 2026 filing — Ramp/space dispute; compensation offered, rejected
- BBB complaint — June 9, 2026 filing — Footage/refund dispute; partial refund reported
- BBB complaint — August 12, 2025 filing — Leaking trailer and disputed limited compensation
Keep the international Ian account explicitly labeled; it does not establish a universal US terminal rule. Use the Fort Smith headquarters corpus rather than adding local BBB aggregates as independent national samples. Company replies are responses, not extra reviews. No confirmed cross-platform duplicate was established; redactions limit that check.
Resolution detail: the ramp response described a replacement and a $236 refund, while the consumer rejected the proposed compensation. In the older leak account, the business acknowledged the leak and maintained its limited-coverage position. An offered or applied credit does not prove complete satisfaction.
Attribution and resolution context
The company’s disclosed freight-forwarder role, ABF transportation and separately selected loading labor must be distinguished. A broad third-party business label is not a substitute for the federal identity above. Trailer and ReloCube capacity, measurement and handling differ. Terminal-specific restrictions and the Canada–US account do not establish nationwide domestic rules.
The published liability statement distinguishes catastrophic-event and carrier-negligence coverage, with limits, exclusions and claim requirements; it is not blanket replacement-value protection. Equipment condition and packing quality are separate possible causes of damage. Individual replies do not override published terms. The August 2025 leak account is an older equipment/coverage example, not a current trend; the business acknowledged the leak while maintaining its limited-coverage position. Offered or applied credits do not prove complete satisfaction. No missing-property prevalence was established.
Review methodology and limitations
HGM’s October 7, 2026 review uses a purposive qualitative sample of identifiable public narratives and business replies. It is not a random sample, complete export or verified customer survey. Sample estimates describe usable narratives, not audited unique households or all customers. Short ratings-only posts, platform summaries, company testimonials and commercial recommendations were not counted as independent theme evidence. Allegations are not findings of fact.
A complaint and its replies count as one account; featured duplicates, updates and identifiable repeat posts are not additional accounts. Similar household narratives were treated as possible overlap. Redactions and missing job identifiers prevent complete cross-platform deduplication. Displayed review, experience and filing dates can differ; updates to older moves are not new experiences. Source pages and ordering can change. No pooled score, rate or frequency percentage is inferred.
Operating context retained from the prior profile
The following operational context and terms were retained from the October 5 profile; they were not newly reverified unless stated above.
Self-load long-distance moving service using freight-forwarder/broker arrangements · Last reviewed October 5, 2026
U-Pack is not a traditional full-service moving carrier. Customers generally pack, load, secure, and unload their belongings while transportation is arranged through the U-Pack system.
Current U-Pack FAQ and ARC 400 materials identify ArcBest II, Inc. (company-described U-Pack brand), with USDOT 2946400 / FF-17300 / MC-997363. However, some live U-Pack liability materials reviewed by HGM still identified Moving Solutions Inc. and referenced MSI-400 terms.
HGM does not assume those separate federal records are the same entity or that one formally replaced the other without primary evidence establishing that relationship.
HGM does not rate or recommend movers. This profile explains how U-Pack works, which documents matter, what reviewers report, and what to check before booking.
Company Snapshot
Consumer brand: U-Pack
Primary current profile anchor: ArcBest II, Inc. (identified by the company as U-Pack; SAFER DBA: ARCBEST)
USDOT: 2946400
FF: 17300
MC: 997363
Federal role: Freight Forwarder / Broker
U-Pack statement: U-Pack says it is not a motor carrier
Primary transportation provider identified by U-Pack: ABF Freight
Separate active record also reviewed:
Moving Solutions Inc.
USDOT 2632086
FF 8973
MC 914011
DBA U-Pack
Federal and company materials reviewed: October 2026
Federal registration identifies entities and operating roles. It is not a federal endorsement or an HGM quality rating.
How U-Pack works
U-Pack is a self-move / self-load long-distance service.
The customer generally:
- packs belongings;
- loads the equipment;
- secures the shipment;
- unloads at destination.
U-Pack identifies ABF Freight as its primary transportation provider.
The ARC 400 tariff also allows ArcBest to use other service providers to perform all or part of authorized services. That means HGM does not assume ABF Freight performs every shipment or every operational step.
U-Pack drivers do not provide loading or unloading labor as part of the standard service. Customers may separately hire labor, but those providers should be evaluated independently from the transportation arrangement.
Why two U-Pack federal identities appear
Older federal records and earlier HGM research associated U-Pack with:
Moving Solutions Inc.
USDOT 2632086
FF 8973
MC 914011
That record remains a separate active federal entity using the U-Pack DBA.
At the same time, current U-Pack FAQ and ARC 400 materials identify ArcBest II, Inc. and the ArcBest identifiers shown above.
This is not only an old-search-result issue. During HGM’s review, some live U-Pack liability material still identified Moving Solutions Inc. and referred to MSI-400 terms.
HGM therefore uses ArcBest II / USDOT 2946400 / FF-17300 / MC-997363 as the primary current profile anchor while preserving the documentation conflict.
HGM does not claim a merger, succession, authority transfer, replacement, or completed legal migration between the two records without primary evidence.
For a consumer, the controlling question is simpler:
Which company and liability terms appear in my own reservation confirmation, Bill of Lading, tariff, and related shipment documents?
Pricing and service structure
Trailer service
U-Pack says trailer customers pay based on the actual linear footage used, subject to a five-foot minimum.
Unused trailer space may contain commercial freight separated from the household-goods shipment by a divider.
Exclusive use should not be assumed unless specifically selected and charged.
ReloCube service
ReloCube pricing is based on the number of cubes actually used.
Confirm:
- how many cubes are reserved;
- how many are ultimately billed;
- any equipment delivery/pickup charges;
- what happens if more or fewer cubes are used.
Quote and final charges
U-Pack’s FAQ says quotes are typically valid for seven days and that no deposit is required.
The ARC 400 tariff states that estimates are nonbinding and final charges can depend on actual equipment use, shipment characteristics, and services provided.
U-Pack also states that the reservation confirmation controls if it conflicts with the tariff.
Earlier review context
The following findings are retained from the October 5 profile. The dated October 7 evidence above supplies the updated overview.
HGM reviewed public feedback tied to identifiable U-Pack profiles.
Reviews are consumer accounts, not independently verified facts.
Positive experiences reported
Reviewed feedback included reports of:
- straightforward booking;
- helpful and knowledgeable representatives;
- accommodating scheduling changes;
- successful pickup and delivery;
- helpful drivers;
- understandable or competitive pricing in some moves.
The existing HGM themes of simple booking, flexibility, and helpful representatives remain supported.
Concerns reported
Reviewed feedback also included reports involving:
- local-terminal or destination-side coordination;
- shipment timing;
- scheduling or change-management problems;
- missed or unclear callbacks;
- communication varying by touchpoint;
- equipment placement;
- damage or claim dissatisfaction;
- confusion over responsibility among the customer, U-Pack/ArcBest, transportation providers, and separately hired labor.
Communication is best characterized as mixed rather than uniformly positive or negative.
Platform context
Platform-wide scores and totals are not used to measure the selected accounts above. No current platform rating or review total is asserted here.
What the operating model may help explain
U-Pack reviews should be interpreted in the context of a self-load transportation model.
A concern about loading damage may involve customer loading or separately hired labor.
A timing or communication problem may involve a local terminal or transportation provider rather than the same customer-service representative who handled booking.
A destination experience may involve different operational participants than the origin side.
The useful questions are therefore:
- Which legal entity appears on my documents?
- Who is transporting my shipment?
- Who delivered or picked up the equipment?
- Who did I hire for loading or unloading labor?
- Which liability terms apply to each participant?
What to check before you book
1. Check the company and liability terms on your documents
Compare:
- quote;
- reservation confirmation;
- Bill of Lading;
- tariff;
- liability terms.
Current U-Pack materials reviewed by HGM did not all identify the same legal entity.
2. Ask who performs each transportation step
U-Pack identifies ABF Freight as its primary transportation provider, but ARC 400 permits other service providers.
Confirm who will:
- deliver the equipment;
- pick it up;
- perform linehaul transportation;
- complete destination delivery.
3. Confirm how footage or cubes are measured
For trailer service, confirm:
- estimated footage;
- five-foot minimum;
- how actual footage is measured;
- how changes affect price.
For ReloCubes, confirm:
- reserved cubes;
- billed cubes;
- delivery/pickup charges.
4. Confirm equipment placement is allowed
Check:
- driveway or street suitability;
- parking rules;
- permits;
- apartment or HOA restrictions;
- clearance;
- how long equipment can remain at the property.
5. Get timing expectations in writing
Confirm:
- equipment delivery;
- loading period;
- pickup;
- transit estimate;
- destination notice;
- final delivery;
- whether any Guaranteed Service applies.
6. Understand liability and third-party labor
Review what protection applies to the transportation arrangement and what separately hired loading/unloading labor covers.
Do not assume the same liability terms apply to U-Pack, the transportation provider, and independent labor.
Have a quote from U-Pack?
Use HGM’s free company check to match the legal entity and federal identifiers shown on your paperwork.
This is especially useful for U-Pack because current public materials reviewed by HGM referenced more than one U-Pack-related federal entity.

Company terms that matter
Cancellation
Current U-Pack FAQ information supports:
- more than 7 days before the move date: no cancellation fee;
- within 7 days: $50;
- on the move date: $150.
Other charges already incurred may still apply under the applicable tariff or reservation terms.
Loading and unloading time
U-Pack says customers generally receive up to:
- three business days to load;
- three business days to unload.
Transit
U-Pack publishes an average transit time of roughly four to six business days for many moves, while specific timing remains move-dependent.
Guaranteed Service may be available for some shipments.
Storage
U-Pack says service-center storage may be available subject to availability.
Storage may not be climate controlled, and customers may not have access to belongings while stored.
Confirm location, pricing, access, and delivery implications before relying on storage.
Liability
The liability terms incorporated into the customer’s reservation confirmation, Bill of Lading, tariff, and other shipment documents should control the specific move.
Some live liability content reviewed by HGM displayed terms under Moving Solutions Inc./MSI-400. HGM does not assume those figures apply universally to every ArcBest II shipment unless incorporated into the customer’s current documents.
Common questions
Is U-Pack a moving company?
U-Pack is a moving service, but its model differs from a traditional full-service motor carrier.
Customers generally load and unload their own belongings while transportation is arranged through the U-Pack system.
Is U-Pack a motor carrier?
U-Pack’s own FAQ says U-Pack is not a motor carrier.
Current materials identify ArcBest II, Inc. with freight-forwarder and broker authority, while ABF Freight is identified as U-Pack’s primary transportation provider.
Why do I see ArcBest II and Moving Solutions?
HGM found current U-Pack materials referencing both entities.
ArcBest II is the primary current profile anchor based on the FAQ and ARC 400 materials reviewed. Moving Solutions remains a separate active federal entity using the U-Pack DBA and appeared in some live liability content.
Check your own shipment documents rather than assuming every U-Pack page uses the same entity.
Does U-Pack require a deposit?
U-Pack’s current FAQ says no deposit is required.
Check the reservation confirmation for the terms applicable to your move.
Does U-Pack provide movers to load my belongings?
Not as part of the standard service.
U-Pack may refer consumers to independent loading or unloading labor. Any separate labor provider should be evaluated independently.
