Research context and what to verify

Use the dated federal record and your own documents to identify each company’s role. Consumer accounts describe reported experiences, not how often an outcome occurs.

Federal identity and authority

United Van Lines LLC, DBA United Van Lines, is USDOT 77949 / MC-67234 / FF-9300. The same snapshot displays “Carrier Registration Information Outdated,” with an MCS-150 form date of September 30, 2024. Review evidence and dated accounts

Conservative retained sample: approximately 9 substantive accounts: two ConsumerAffairs narratives, one Trustpilot narrative, two United-identifiable BBB complaints and four Oler Relo accounts connected to United through the reviewer or business response.

Publication range: July 6–October 4, 2026. One BBB complaint concerns a November 2025 delivery.

  • ConsumerAffairs: Kelsey, October 4, 2026: Helpful initial coordinator; later delivery, handling and claim concerns.
  • ConsumerAffairs: Melissa, August 21, 2026: Packing and delivery complaints; reported service-fee refund but disputed damage claims.
  • Trustpilot: Palmer H, September 16, 2026: Identifies Armstrong Relocation in Canton, Massachusetts; alleges transfer, inventory and loss/damage problems.
  • BBB: July 29, 2026: Identifies Liberty Moving and a United interstate shipment; concerns incomplete delivery and updates.
  • BBB: August 6 complaint; August 26 update: Customer reports satisfactory settlement agreement; final electronic disbursement was still being completed.
  • Oler Relo: July 6, July 17, August 2 and August 4, 2026: Crew, coordination and delivery praise; one account reports prompt compensation after furniture damage.

These anchors support qualified themes, not failure rates. consumeraffairs.com

Duplicate and attribution handling:

  • Counted Trustindex’s Google-syndicated accounts once.
  • Excluded Oler accounts explicitly naming Mayflower, and generic accounts without a usable United connection.
  • Excluded a ConsumerAffairs account naming United Global Van Lines, a different company.
  • Did not use UniGroup’s aggregate complaint count as United’s count.
  • Preserved Armstrong, Liberty and Oler attribution. No additional obvious duplicate was identified within the retained subset; undetected cross-posts remain possible.

Resolution: Preserve the satisfactory BBB settlement update and Oler’s reported prompt compensation. Do not describe every retained claim as unresolved.

Reported favorable experiences

  • Professional packing, loading and delivery crews in identified agent accounts.
  • Helpful coordination and scheduling.
  • A requested delivery date met in one retained account.
  • Positive claim-resolution experiences alongside disputed claims. Trustindex.io

Reported concerns

  • Late or incomplete delivery and difficulty obtaining useful updates.
  • Reported damage or missing belongings.
  • Disputes over packing services and claim decisions.
  • Transfers between participants complicating inventory and responsibility. consumeraffairs.com

The retained evidence does not establish a national pattern of estimate inflation, storage overcharging or shuttle-charge disputes.

Attribution, resolutions and evidence limits

Armstrong Relocation in Canton, Massachusetts, Liberty Moving and Oler Relo remain named-agent accounts, not interchangeable headquarters conduct. The Oler connection to United is based on reviewer identification or a business reply, not independently authenticated shipment paperwork. Liberty’s response asserts that the shipment moved under United authority; its legal-liability argument is not HGM’s conclusion.

The August 26 BBB update reports a satisfactory settlement agreement, with final electronic disbursement still being completed; it does not establish that all funds had arrived. One Oler account reports prompt compensation after furniture damage. Other claim decisions remained disputed.

Mayflower-identified Oler accounts, generic accounts without a usable United connection and the differently named United Global Van Lines account were excluded. UniGroup complaint totals are not United totals. No national estimate-inflation, storage-overcharging or shuttle-charge pattern is established.

Review methodology

HGM’s October 7, 2026 review uses the selected substantive narratives and dated anchors described above. Approximate sample counts describe inspected accounts, not platform totals, authenticated transactions or representative customer samples. Reviews are accounts or allegations, not verified events; company replies are attributed statements. No national rating, pooled agent score, complaint rate or frequency claim is inferred.

Repeated excerpts, obvious duplicates and identifiable wrong-company accounts were excluded. Syndicated Google accounts counted once. Redacted names and missing move details limit cross-platform matching; undetected duplicates remain possible. Publication, complaint-filing, update and experience dates are distinguished where known. Contracts and full claim records were not independently authenticated. Sources may change.

Retained operational and historical context

The following material is retained from the earlier HGM profile. Earlier dates and evidence limitations remain attached to that material; the dated federal and review sections above provide the current update. Terms may change.

Earlier overview and booking context

United’s affiliated agents perform much of the work on interstate shipments under United’s authority. Its in-person or virtual survey and chosen service package matter when comparing the final quote. United and Mayflower are separate UniGroup brands; HGM keeps their review evidence separate.

  • Map the agent’s role to United’s paperwork. Identify who surveys, picks up, hauls and delivers the shipment, and match the legal names and USDOT information on the estimate and Bill of Lading.
  • Reconcile the household survey with the quote. United describes in-person or virtual surveys. Check that the final inventory, packing and services reflect what will actually move.
  • Verify package protection and claims responsibility. United advertises Full-Value Protection within certain full-service packages. Confirm your written selection, who supplies updates and where a damage or loss claim goes.

Earlier review context

This earlier assessment predates the dated October 7 evidence above. Its limitations are retained for context, not as a description of the updated sample.

Corporate-level review evidence is limited relative to United’s agent network. Interstate moves operate under United’s authority, but independently owned agents perform much of the work. Crew, packing, scheduling, and local-move experiences may therefore reflect the individual agent, while United remains the carrier of record for interstate shipments.

Within the reviewed material attributable to United, accounts describe damage or loss, claim-handling disputes, and difficulty communicating. These are reviewers’ accounts, not verified findings, and the available evidence does not establish how often these issues occur.

Confirm the agent and carrier responsible for your shipment, who will provide updates, and where a claim should be submitted.

Evidence reviewed September 29, 2026. This summary is limited to material linked to United Van Lines, USDOT 77949. Agent-specific experiences require separate attribution. Mayflower complaints on the shared UniGroup BBB profile are excluded.

This summary concerns United Van Lines LLC, USDOT 77949. The UniGroup BBB profile contains material about multiple brands; only material attributable to United is considered here. Mayflower complaints and unlinked local-agent moves are excluded. Complaint filings are reviewer allegations, not proven events or network-wide performance findings.

What to verify for your move

  • Understand the agent relationship. Ask which affiliated agent is handling the survey, pickup, transportation, delivery, billing, and claims.
  • Compare the survey to the final quote. United describes in-person or virtual household surveys before pricing. Make sure the quoted inventory and services reflect what will actually be moved.
  • Review included protection. United advertises Full-Value Protection within certain full-service packages. Verify the exact valuation option stated on your paperwork.
  • United and agent legal names
  • USDOT/authority information
  • Inventory/survey accuracy
  • Full-service package inclusions
  • Packing charges
  • Valuation coverage
  • Storage and vehicle-shipping terms
  • Pickup and delivery windows
  • Claims procedures

Compare the written estimate with the inventory and services discussed, and ask what could change the final price. Ask for the pickup and delivery windows and how changes will be communicated.
